Our Feline Companions

Emmy

Emmy was adopted from the Veterinary Technology Program at Portland Community College. It took her awhile to adjust from living in a cat house to living in a real house, but adapt she has.  She is a marshmallow kitty, sometimes we think you could tie her in knots and she would just lay there and purr, she just loves to be petted and scratched. She is great friends with some of the hounds, so long as they don't get too rough with her. She has also displayed an amazing ability to open drawers, cupboards and boxes. I saw her working on the fridge the other day, let's hope she doesn't figure that out!

Karma

Karma, joined the family in November of 1999.  We had received a call from a Humane Society who wanted our help to identify a hound.  On the off chance that it might be a Harrier, we bundled in to the car and drove the 3 hours to get there.  The hound turned out to be something other than a Harrier, but while we were there, *something* kept pulling us into the cat room.  We didn't think we were ready for another cat, but Karma thought otherwise.  When Ellen walked into the cat room, there were about 15 cats milling around together, begging for attention.  As she said hello to several of them, she heard a polite little meow at her feet.  Looking down, she saw a beautiful calico and her expression said, "Hello, you're mine.  About time you got here!"  Ellen picked her up to say hello.  Doug walked in and she jumped from Ellen's arms to his shoulder and wrapped herself around him.  We were sunk, so Karma came home with us.  She fit in here like she'd been born here and has been a delightful addition to the household.
